Rural Pharmacist Pre-Registration Incentive Allowance

The Rural Pharmacist Pre-registration Incentive Allowance is funded under the Fourth Community Pharmacy Agreement between the Pharmacy Guild of Australia and the Australian Government, represented by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA).

The Rural Pharmacist Pre-registration Incentive Allowance is aimed at increasing and supporting the rural and remote pharmacy workforce, by encouraging  pharmacists to practice in rural and remote areas.

Pharmacies in rural and remote areas are often required to provide extra financial incentives such as higher wages and accommodation assistance to attract pharmacy pre-registrants to their region. The Rural Pharmacist Pre-registration Incentive Allowance aims to defray some of the additional costs involved, thereby increasing the capacity of rural and remote community pharmacies to engage pharmacy pre-registrants.

To qualify the community pharmacy must be located in PhARIA area indicated below (please click here to see your PhARIA index: PhARIA Website). Funding is available for Eligible Applicants located in PhARIA 2 – 6, and PhARIA 1, excluding the following areas:

A maximum allowance of $5,000 (excluding GST) per pharmacy may be made to eligible community pharmacies and/or an approved hospital authority engaging a pre-registration employee for a continuous six-month period.
