About RPWP

The Rural Pharmacy Workforce Program (RPWP) forms part of the Rural Pharmacy Allowance and Support Program which is a priority initiative agreed under the Fourth Community Pharmacy Agreement. The objectives of the RPWP are aimed at increasing access to pharmacy services in rural and remote areas and strengthening and supporting the rural pharmacy workforce.

The RPWP consists of interventions on a variety of levels, including continuing education scholarships for rural pharmacists, an emergency locum placement service, scholarships for students from rural and remote areas wishing to study pharmacy, student placement allowance scheme, specific scholarships for indigenous students, small project funding, rural commissioned research projects, placement of pharmacist academics in rural areas, a national rural pharmacy promotion campaign and a rural pharmacy newsletter.

The Program is funded by the Department of Health and Ageing and is managed by The Pharmacy Guild of Australia.
